Amazing info received with the collaboration of Brian Jensen, Canada.
Mickie Proulx is writing : "... a new Fjord fanatic was born yesterday ... It was a tough haul for the 2 1/2 year old gray gelding but what an impressive little guy. He had never seen a horse trailer before and was loaded up in less than 5 minutes. The lady was in instant love, saying she had wanted a Fjord for ten years... Pictures of us hauling him the 50 miles out on river and new owner lady picking him up. She had a good thousand mile roundtrip drive to get him! Her name is Thane. His name is Eden Lake's HERC. He's a special Fjord and I will miss him a lot..."
Complement information received, thank you Mickie !
My name is Mickie Proulx, husband John Tousignant, and I live in a very remote area of Alaska, called Eden Lake. We have a small herd of buffalo and "had" 8 wonderful Fjords, now 6 since we delivered the two colts.
The colts, a coming three yr old gray gelding named "Eden Lake's Herc" and a brown dun, Mr. Bevis, coming three yr old colt. They were both born and raised here. The gray was sold to a wonderful lady by the name of Thane Piscoya, she drove a thousand miles to pick him up. The brown dun was sold to AK. Rampage, just out of Healy Alaska. This is the 4th Fjord that Ak. Rampage has now, used for packing meat during hunting season.
It was just time to sell the Fjords to someone that could love and use them. I'm hoping to breed my two mares this summer and raise up a couple foals again.
The nearest road to us begins in the village of Manley HotSprings. To get there (where the buyers were meeting us) we have to travel 20 miles thru the woods and then 30 miles on the frozen Tanana River. The only time we can move a horse in or out of here is in the winter months of Feb or March when the river ice is up to 5 ft thick. It takes 5 hours to travel that 50 miles, so to give the horses a fairly smooth ride out.
Husband, John, is the expert snowmachine rider. Our great and fearless helper in the fancy fox hat is Matt Ellingson. When we come to steep hills, he will tie his snogo to my husband's snogo and help pull.
Mickie
P.S. these colts had never seen a horse trailer before. They loaded immediately. I was awed!! Fjords.... incredible!
